The demoscene (or simply 'scene') is a loose community of people, often arranged in groups, who create works of art for fun, and/or to show off what they can do with the often limited capabilities of computers. This can include executable programs called demos, or intros, graphics (gfx), music (like SID tunes or modules) and related items (e.g. vote disks, zines). Some demo scene groups originate from cracking groups, who break the security of e.g. games in order to spread them. This habit also gave a boost to the development of intros, which were often included with the games. On the other hand, some crackers and sceners moved on to make commercial software themselves, or find other jobs in IT (developers, security specialists, musicians).
